  1. I was with the decision to face a new garage door for about $ 230 or repair the existing open from 1992 that are missing some of today’s security features buying. Since I do not use this garage door often and I have no children, I decided to save some money and repair itself. I have no experience doing this type of repair garage doors, but as a do-it-yourself I thought it was worth trying.

The kit comes with detailed instructions that the process was broken into five main stages, each with several different tasks. The instructions are not exactly to my opener, but close enough to get the point. The steps start with removing the motor with screws, remove the stem cells to replace the chain of transmission, instead of the worm, train, and finally assembling everything. After the first two steps were completed I brought the parties to work within. I had the greatest difficulty in removing the pin closely together to replace the transmission. About two hours later, everything was reassembled and the garage door was like magic. T

For those who want to save time, it is a complete kit with gear stem for about $ 11 more. If time is a problem for you, consider the option more expensive kit. But for me, this kit is good and fair price. Ultimately I need to replace my aging Craftsman garage door, but I can wait for the right time for me in financial terms.

    FOR:
inexpensive way to experience life to your garage />
    ;
    instruction CONS:
The kit can be used in place of the garage door opener to delay the time />

I saved ~ $ 75, in everything I was working. It is a common problem with Craftsman garage door opener – the main wheel being out of band. Mine seems to have lasted more than 8 years, I can not really complain. The transmission cost of the kit was much better than any one door opener new garage.

My only recommendation to this DIY REMEMBER to reconnect all the sensors! Oops

Kit had all my parts requiring repairs. Approximately one hour for repairs, because I do not need to replace the screws, only the main landing gear. Instructions very well. Easy access to spare parts needed, with a little patience. Saved them $ 350 to repair the door, the company said in its power everything had to be replaced.

I had more parts than I expected and needed for a replacement. Like a glove, no problems. The delivery was faster than expected.

It’s been hard work, the more I expected, despite the excellent reviews at issue here, the alert eye of many caps and pins.

The instructions were so-so. I thought they were very generic, with the intention of writing changes in applicable models. The cards would be clearer. . . For example, I had trouble finding where the brackets and pinion drive race (2A) was. It’s the white thing at the end of the shaft gear. My advice is to take the time and move very slowly through the instructions step by step. There were some things that delayed me:

    * The gear has been raised in the housing through the hole and I was only two inches in height between the tip opens and the garage ceiling. This implied that the opener was down to a few centimeters. I sat down with a rope and straps since the takeover would mean he has even offered to UN Axel bolting it to the chain, and I did not. lowering it worked, but it takes more time.

    * The second question sounds like a general, as others have here too. I struggled, the drive shaft socket of the motor shaft because the shaft was a little bit spoiled by the adjuster. The scratch is so small that it is difficult to see, but it prevents slippage Jack. For the excellent advice of others, I could use a file to smooth down the well, so I can finally remove the plug, and finally the worm.

    * I also had trouble taking the pen from gear, despite 5 / 32 punch. “Withdrawal It was easier than he, as I have a new plastic-damage to the transmission when replacing it was worried.

    * There are some adjustments at the end of time, adjusting the high / low limits and strength.

In addition to these questions, it was question of memory, how it would all come back together … I used notes along the way.

The kit was great. In terms of quality, the room was the same as the original, that I be replaced. Sanford & Son was fast shipping – took about 4 or 5 days to arrive, which was below the estimate. So I am totally satisfied with my purchase.

Ultimately, costs $ 19. crusting 49 (including postage) Several hours of my weekend, several abrasions on his hands, only a few Bled (taken from the channel) and very dirty hands, grease or cuticle around both days later, despite many washings.

I would do it again? Absolutely … I like the learning experience that goes along with most do-it-yourself tasks. However, if this type of task is not your cup of tea or if you put together IKEA furniture to be tedious, I suggest you hire someone to manage.
