Common Garage Door Opener Problem- Safety Eyes

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

One of the more common opener malfunctions that I see as a technician are the safety-eyes are not working. This will cause the garage door opener to FAIL TO CLOSE, it will open just fine, but will not close without holding the wall button down. The safety-eyes are a feature that will cause the garage door opener to stop, and reverse, if anything breaks the infrared beam that is generated by the safety-eyes. If they are misaligned, or blocked somehow, the opener will refuse to close. This is something you DEFINITELY want to check before calling a repair technician!
